Movement Disorders Neurologist, Assistant Professor of Neurology
Dr. Perez is a board-certified neurologist who specializes in movement disorders. Originally from southern Louisiana, Dr. Perez received an undergraduate degree in music performance at LSU in Baton Rouge followed by a medical degree from LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. She completed her neurology residency followed by fellowship training in Movement and Neurodegenerative Disorders at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society.
Her clinical expertise is in the diagnosis and treatment of tremor, Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, ataxia, and Huntington’s disease. She also has expertise in the placement and management of Deep Brain Stimulators for refractory tremor, Parkinson’s disease, and dystonia. She performs botulinum toxin (Botox) injections for chronic migraine and dystonia, and divides her professional time between clinical responsibilities at Tulane and the VA Medical Center, the education of the medical students and residents, and her deep commitment to her patients, which manifests itself in many ways, including regular interaction with patient support groups and musical performances with patients.
Dr. Perez is affiliated with American Academy of Neurology, International Parkinson & Movement Disorder Society, and Board certified to practice neurology by The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
